how to paint wood letters

March 9th, 2010

we often get asked how to paint our wood letters.  For the best finish, we recommend the following.

Prime your letters with a white primer if you have some, or use your final top-coat color.  Allow this to dry to the manufacturers specifications.  After completely dry, sand with a 150 grit sand paper, or finer, to smooth the paint.

Paint the letters with your chosen color, and if you desire a finer finish, you can  repeat the sanding process one more time, before applying a final coat.

This will give you a very sharp looking letter.

Sandblasted Sign / Antique Finish

February 20th, 2010

This sign is made from HDU, the background is sandblasted with a stucco style finish, and the letters, and border, are raised about 1/4″ off the background to help add dimension to the letters, and catch the attention of passers by.  The background is finished with a faux bronze finish(its real bronze, suspended in acrylic paint), and aged with a darkening gel.  The letters and border are coated with a silver, that’s real silver, paint.  You can tell its real silver, by the way it shimmers when photographing it.  It looks almost white, but when you are viewing that with your eye, or a car light hits it, it will get the attention it needs to be a successful sign.

Rustic / Western Signs

February 19th, 2010

I’m kind of a sign junkie, so when I see something interesting I snap a picture.  The following picture was taken while on vacation in Northern Wisconsin.  Its a great place to visit, if you want to disconnect from the world, which I like to do every once in a while.

Mounting Templates

February 19th, 2010

We offer mounting templates on all of our sign letters.  You may ask, what is a mounting template?

A mounting template is simply a paper pattern, designed to go with your chosen lettering.  With plain mount letters, or letters with no hardware, this is simply an outline of the letter, with holes punched in paper.  You can use marking chalk, to dust the walls, which will outline the letter.

Then remove the template, and you will have an outline of the letters to align the letters.

For letters ordered with mounting hardware, like studs, or pads, the mounting template will have holes marked where you will pre-drill the wall,  or board, that your letters are fastened to.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
